TASK 2. "LEMKE COMIC" - TRANSLATOR

5 CORE TERMS 
  1. INNOVATION: is an idea that is creative and propagates and influences the system where it appears. In the text we read appears 3 innovations related to education and the technological world in which we live.
  2. PREK-12 SCHOOLS: is a system that stands for 'from kindergarten to 12th grade', this term is situated in the US educational system where the school starting age is from 5 to 18 years old.
  3. VISUALIZATION: is the innovation number one of Cheryl Lemke’s text for better learning and participation of 21st century students. Visualization has several implications in education for example, online gaming, also is a way of scaffolding students’ learning and is good for critical and creative thinking development of students. In addition, it is known that students learn better when combining: visuals, text and sound.
  4. DEMOCRATIZATION OF KNOWLEDGE: gives the opportunity to achieve lifelong learning and also gives the opportunity to teachers to transform the school in a new place for 21st century learning. In the text there is a classification of things in which we think when we talk about democratization of knowledge as for example: browsing the net, learning objects…
  5. PARTICIPATORY LEARNING: the society in which we currently live prioritizes collaboration, group work and participation and this can be seen in the economic globalization and with the social networks through which we are interacting with others at all times. There is a need to restructure learning, we can no longer be passive observers, there is a need for greater participation and more groups for the creation of knowledge. Specific question: Weaknesses of the topic, methodology and the tool of the task. In our opinion, this task had many more advantages than weaknesses since using other formats such as the comic to represent in another way an academic text has been very enriching and will be a thing that we will use in the future with our students since it makes learning much more enjoyable, fun and easy to understand. We believe that it is very useful to manipulate knowledge and create a final product as we have done with the comic because in this way everything is internalized much more and you learn a lot. In spite of all the good things that this task has brought us there are also things that have given us certain problems during the elaboration of this comic. First of all, each group had a different comic format or style, some much more complicated than others and we think that’s one thing the teacher should be aware of. To the comic styles that were available to do the task we see a weakness that is subjectivity, since we for example thought that at the beginning our comic was well done but after asking the teacher we realized that the faces of the characters had to be flat and we had to repeat the entire comic with another app. In relation to this, another of the weaknesses that we have detected is the few tools that we could find to do the comic style that we had to do, at first we started with Storyboard but not being able to put the characters stuck to the wall we had to do it with Canva and repeat everything. On some occasions we found this task difficult to accomplish as it is a new style of work, we did not know much information about the hieroglyphs and we had to investigate a lot. Another weakness of this task is how boring our comic style was as it was inspired by Ancient Egyptians so it had to be quite simple. It was difficult to develop all our creativity and imagination as the characters could only be placed in a specific position and the text also, so we would love to do something aesthetically more beautiful in the next task. Finally, although we understand that it is because of the situation of Covid-19, we do not think it is a good idea that the Star of the group repits 8 times the same since it can be very monotone for the person and would be finished sooner if he went out once each group and the others listened. In this way there would be more time to take advantage of the rest of the class and advance the next task since we have many in a short time. To sum up, we liked the task very much and we have enjoyed quite doing it although it has been very laborious. The subject dealt in the text we liked and seemed interesting so we do not see any weakness. We are very proud of our teamwork and each one has done the best and the comic despite the fact that the style was complicated we think it is very good.
