TASK 6. "GAMES" - Theoretical part (all the information about our game)
Here we attach all the information about our game, including some pdfs for downloading the game to be used anytime and anywhere.
NAME: SONDER GAME (Sonder: The feeling of realizing that each person has a life as important and complex as our own and that we will never be able to know them all, that we are not the absolute protagonists).
GOAL: the main goal of this game is fostering attitudes that benefit emotional and social wellbeing as well as letting children have the chance to express their feelings and learn how to identify and control their emotions, which is an attitude really important and demanded these days.
LEVEL: the game has been developed for the 3rd level of Primary Education, that is, for 5th and 6th Grade, from 10 to 12 years old.
ASSESSMENT CRITERIA: Our game is centered on the following Assessment Criteria from the Spanish curriculum from the third cycle of Primary Education: 4.1 Promover actitudes que fomenten el bienestar emocional y social, gestionando las emociones propias y respetando las de los demás, fomentando relaciones afectivas saludables y reflexionando ante los usos de la tecnología y la gestión del tiempo libre.
INSPIRATION: This page has been very important for our inspiration: www.clubpequeslectores.com/trabajando-las-emociones-recursos-educativos.html. Also, we got inspired by "The Goose" game, the "Bingo" and the "Dominó".
OBJECTIVE OF THE GAME: The objective of the game is to reach the final square (which is a heart), after passing many different squares that contain a minigame (bingo, dominó, mime, questions, or problem-solution). For advancing through the squares and reaching the final one, they should win some of the mini-games, or express their feeling in other mini-games.
RULES, DYNAMIC, AND STRATEGY:
- RULES:
- Each team should be of two people minimum, 3 maximum.
- First of all, each team will throw the dice in order to decide the order of the game. The one who obtains the biggest number will the first to throw the number dice.
- There are different challenges throughout the board. Those challenges are: Emotion bingo: each team will have a bingo card and some game pieces, which players will use to cap the emotion that comes out randomly. The first team to do a line will win and will throw the dice again. Domino: each team receives 5 pieces. every piece has emotion and a definition of an emotion. You must join every word with its definition. There will be some extra pieces to take in case you don't have the piece you need. The winning team will throw the dice again. Emotional questions: you will be asked a question about an emotion. If you answer correctly you go forward one square. Emotional mimicry: one person throws the emotions dice and the rest cannot see the dice. once you have the emotion, you must represent it with no words, only gestures. If they guess the emotion you will throw the number dice again. Emotional problem: a problem related to emotions will be raised to you. you have to find a solution for it. If you find it on time you will go forward one square. There are some squares in which you will lose the turn or you will go forward two squares those ones are "loose turn" or "reward".
- DYNAMIC and STRATEGY:
- Bingo: A bingo template with emotions is handed out to each team, as well as tokens with emotions. A member of the team that has landed in the box removes the cards and draws them out one at a time, calling them out loud. The rest of the teams, including the one that removed the tiles, fill in their template if they say the emotion that is on it. The first team to complete a line wins and rolls the dice to advance on the board.
- Dominó: it is played like a normal dominó but, instead of having dots, it has practical situations on one side and emotions on the other. Five pieces of the dominó are handed out to each team, and the mini-game begins. Each team will take a piece and will have to match it with the corresponding emotion by turns, so they will have to think and identify each emotion with the situation and they will get to know with examples the different feelings we experience in our life. If a team cannot match their pieces in his turn, they stole an extra card and lose his turn. The team
- Emotions Dice squares: There are three different types of squares that require throwing the "Emotions Dice", which is a dice with a different emotion on each side; the die contains 6 different emotions which are: jealousy, fear, sadness, surprise, anger, and happiness. Hereafter, we explain the three squares where the die is used. Mime-game: This square has a drawing of a mime. When a team falls in this square, it will have to roll the Emotions Dice, without being seen by the others, and with signs and gestures, the mate of his/her team has to guess what the emotion is. Mime-game encourages children's imagination and creativity in recreating situations or feelings plus it's a fun game for all ages. If the partner guesses the emotion, the team advances one square and the turn goes to the team on the left. Problem-solution: This square has a drawing of a bulb. Once the dice has been rolled, one player of the team has to talk about a situation related to the feeling that appeared in the dice to his mate. Then, the other player in the pair has to reflect and give a solution to that situation, or at least say what he or she would do in that situation, and try to help his or her partner. After answering it, the team does not roll the dice again, but they advance one square and the turn goes to the team on the left. Questions: This square has a drawing of a question mark. Once the dice has been rolled, one player on the team catches a blue card that has an emotion written on one side, he/she must catch the card corresponding to the emotion that appeared in the dice. The questions will be divided into 6 cards corresponding to the 6 emotions that appear on the dice and on each card there will be 2 to 3 questions for the children to think about these important topics. Then, he/she asks one of the questions (which are about the emotion that appeared in the dice) to the other member of the team, who will have to ask the question, talk about what it is, how he/she understands it, in what situations that emotion appears, and why. After answering, the team advances one square, and the turn goes to the team on the left.
- Punishment boxes: there are two types of punishment squares. In one kind the team misses a turn and in the other one, the team goes back 3 squares.
- Reward boxes: There are also two types, one to roll the die again and the other one, to advance two squares.
SOCIAL DESIGN: Regarding the social design of the game, it is based on making teams of two players. The number of participants is flexible but we recommend approximately 4 to 8 participants, in pairs to make it more dynamic and so players help each other. The game needs several people to play dominó, bingo, and ask questions. We have tried to make it as dynamic as possible and that through the games they learn to manage their emotions and respect the emotions of others. This will be achieved thanks to the questions' part where they share their opinions with their classmates and will have to listen to each other and contribute.
MATERIALS: The materials used in the game are:
- Board: the board was created by us. Here we attach it for possible future use:
- Bingo templates and cards: One of the squares is a Bingo mini-game. For doing so, we used a free template obtained from the web https://dorkydoodles.com/free-printable-bingo-game-about-feelings (it is necessary to clarify that they are free and legal). We printed and laminated them to make them more resistant to play with, and we cut out the different chips for giving them to our students. Here we attach a link where you can download each template of the bingo:

- Dominó cards: Another square is a Dominó about feelings. We designed the cards based upon a previous dominó template that we found on this web: https://www.orientacionandujar.es/domino-de-los-sentimientos. However, there were two problems: the template was in Spanish, and the words and situations described were too difficult or far from students' experience, so we adapted the dominó inspiring from some ideas and feelings of the previous one. Here we attach a document for downloading the emotions' dominó made by us: Emotions' Dominó.
- Dice of Emotions: This dice was used in three mini-games. We cut it out and built it ourselves It was written in Spanish so we had to translate it into English. We obtained it from this web page that offers it for free: https://www.hola.com/dado-emociones-plantilla-descargable/. Here we attach a pdf of the template of the dice: Dice of Emotions.
- Cards for the "Questions" mini-game: We created six different cards according to the six emotions that appear in the Dice of Emotions. Here we attach a link to a drive were you can download the cards in case you want to use them (the order of the cards is the following: jealousy, fear, sadness, surprise, anger, happiness): Questions' cards.
- Hourglass.
- Common dice.
