TASK 4. “KEY COMPETENCES” - Translator

TRANSLATOR: Lidia and Sofía

  1. European Quality Framework for lifelong learning (EQF): is a type of framework for having a common reference that tries to help to compare the national qualifications systems, levels and frameworks, to understand the qualifications between the different countries of Europe and it can be useful for a student that moves to another country.

  1. E-learning: this concept comes from “electronic-learning”. It’s a type of online teaching that allows the student to interact with a material through various computer tools. It's not the same as IT as a subject area but is something good for developing students’ imagination and is stimulating and fun.

  1. Story Map: is a way to inform, participate and inspire people by making a story you want to tell with photos, drawings, multimedia content, videos…There are many different types of story map graphic organizers and can be made for a wide variety of topics, like telling a personal story about a trip or a place that you like very much or an interesting place, as we have done in our task.

  1. Canva: is a digital and free application really useful for both students and teachers since it provides them with practical and valuable tools in order to create posters, digital presentations, advertisements, conceptual maps.. and many other elements and tools which are aesthetic, fruitful and helpful for school work.

  1. Key Competencies: essential competencies students need to learn and develop, and they encompass knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values. Key competencies work together, are demonstrated in performance and influence each other. Each competence will look and work differently in each context so, they are complex and changing. In this activity the Key Competencies developed are Learning to learn, Cultural awareness and expression and Sense of initiative and entrepreneurship.

Specific question:

Weaknesses of the topic, methodology and the tool of the task.

Regarding the weaknesses of this activity, first of all we had to choose 4 activities for our students to develop so we had to adjust to the book. Maybe we would have liked to design more original and dynamic activities so that would be the only weakness while preparing the activity, even though we are pretty happy with our final result, with the process of developing them in class and the performance of our colleagues. Another weakness would be that when we were in class with ICT teachers developing the activity, Internet failed twice so we had to wait a few minutes to continue with the task and one colleague’s MacBook was not working but we, as teachers, were ready for any problem that could happen like that and we lend her one of the star’s IPad. Even though these are unexpected issues that happen in real life classrooms, we have been ready to overcome them efficiently.

We followed a very simple methodology to complete this assignment. We read the part of the book that the teacher gave us where all the competencies and examples of activities appear, and then we chose which 4 activity we wanted to develop in this task. Then we had to create three accounts in Story Map, Canva and Evernote because these are activities thought for primary children and they are not allowed in terms of legality to create accounts on the Internet. After providing all of the necessary tools and elements for the activities we decided that it would be a great idea to have visual support when orally presenting the activity to our colleagues, therefore we made a digital presentation in Canva with an eye-catching design and the essential data to understand the assignment.

This task has been designed and completed by the students using basically digital tools and the internet, except for several post-its that we gave to them in order to create the second activity (Start a campaign on Causes and try to change the world for the better!). In the first activity we have used Story Map, in the third activity Canva was again our first option, and finally so as to complete the third task the students had to use Evernote.
